Lagoona Kahuna Team Challenge set for Friday

Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation hosts the annual Lagoona Kahuna Team Challenge, a community lagoon cleanup effort for individuals and businesses, on Friday May 6 at California Watersports, 4215 Harrison St. Large businesses (The Big Kahuna) will participate from 9 a.m. to noon; small businesses (The Little Kahuna) from noon to 3 p.m., and individuals/dynamic duos (The Mini Kahuna) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the foundation’s environmental educational program. Orchid show opens Saturday at garden

The San Diego Botanic Garden will host its second spring orchid showcase, World of Orchids, starting Saturday , May 7 and continuing through June 12. The garden will stage the exhibition, which kicks off Mother’s Day weekend, in the 8,000-square-foot, glass-enclosed Dickinson Family Education Conservatory. On select days, the show will feature sales of plants, potting materials, reference guides and other merchandise by vendors, conservation organizations, and local orchid societies. Families with adolescent children with Type 1 Diabetes are being sought for a study by Sharon Hamill, Ph.D. and her graduate student, Jessica Preciado from the Psychology Department at California State University San Marcos. This study is designed to explore Type 1 diabetes in adolescents aged 13-18 and how families manage the disease. Participants will complete a brief online survey at their convenience.
