The Food Bank, a United Way agency, will participate in the nation’s largest single-day food drive May 14, according to the release. The Local National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1047 will work with the Food Bank and United Way on the event.
All residents served by the Gadsden, Alabama City and East Gadsden post offices are asked to place non-perishable food items such as canned meats, soups, vegetables, rice, pasta, grits and peanut butter in a bag near their mailboxes May 14 before their letter carrier arrives, the release said.
According to the release, once collected, the food will be taken to the Food Bank and distributed to needy families in the area. Among the agencies that will be helping give out the food will be the Love Center, the Etowah Baptist Mission Center, the Catholic Center of Concern and the Salvation Army.
