Boarding a Transavia flight from Amsterdam? Have fresh meal delivered directly on board with this new service
With flight services resuming worldwide, most services that we’ve come to expect while flying are now being reintroduced. Ordering a bite on a flight is one such service but it is rather limited to what the particular airline has to offer. To offer more choices to its passengers, Just Eat Takeaway.com and Transavia have rolled out a new ‘in-flight delivery’ service, which is said to be the first of its kind offering.
Order your favorite meal before boarding
Most people are fine with meal options available onboard an airline but that doesn’t mean you can’t have more options to choose from. The new ‘in-flight delivery’ service by Transvia enables this by offering people to order what they want through Just Eat Takeaway.com up to one hour before their flight.

Transavia, a part of the AIR FRANCE KLM Group, is one of the leading airlines in the Netherlands. It carries more than 15 million passengers per year and operates flights from six bases in Europe. In the Netherlands, it flies from Amsterdam, Rotterdam/The Hague and Eindhoven, and in France, it flies from Paris, Nantes and Lyon.
Transavia and Just Eat Takeaway.com have developed the pilot programme in cooperation with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and iFleat, the restaurant specialising in delivering food for frequent flyers. Transavia Flight HV 5355 from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Faro was the first flight to offer in-flight delivery. The pilot programme for this service was headed by Transavia and Just Eat Takeaway.com, in cooperation with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and iFleat.
Soon coming to more flights
The in-flight food delivery service is currently available for four flights routes that are heading from Amsterdam to Greece, Portugal and Italy. The companies expect to roll out the service for more flights and airports where Transavia operates, such as Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Eindhoven Airport. The companies note that depending upon the travel advisory of the destination, the service’s availability could be affected.
Passengers on selected flights offering this service will be notified via email about the new service.They will be able to choose from ten unique meals at the Transavia Restaurant. iFleat takes care of the Transavia menu.
The meal options include vegan salads, fresh sushi, and Indonesian rendang, amongst others. The meals are said to be freshly prepared and directly delivered on board by Just Eat Takeaway.com and served by the cabin crew.
The service is also expected to help with food wastage. With in-flight delivery, payment is settled up front, and Transavia knows which passengers pre-ordered a meal. This lowers the number of meals that are prepared and brought on board but not consumed.
Additionally, since COVID-19 is still a concern, additional safety measures have been implemented, such as limiting the onboard food assortment. According to the airlines, this has helped to minimise the number of contact points between cabin crews and passengers.

The company commenced operations in 2000 when its CEO, Jitse Groen, founded and launched one of the world’s first online food delivery marketplaces, Thuisbezorgd.nl, in the Netherlands.
Earlier this year, Just Eat Takeaway and US-based food delivery app Grubhub entered into a definitive agreement. Just Eat Takeaway is to acquire 100% of the shares of Grubhub in an all-stock transaction — a €6.5 billion deal — to create the world’s largest online food delivery company outside of China with customers in 25 countries.
